Compliance Update: 10/19 EEOC Poster

Updated: Dec 12, 2022

EEOC “Know Your Rights” Poster

On October 19th, the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission published an updated “Know Your Rights” poster. The following day, the EEOC replaced the new poster with a revised version marked 10/20/2022.

What Does This Mean for Employers? Covered employers must:

  • Remove the “EEO is the law” poster.

  • Start using the EEOC “Know Your Rights” poster marked 10/20/2022.

  • Place the new poster in a prominent location at your worksite.

Covered Employers Must Display the New Poster

The EEOC announced that employers should no longer use the “EEO is the Law” poster. Instead, employers must replace that notice with the “Know Your Rights” poster. Covered employers are required by law to post this poster at their work sites. The new poster provides more information on the laws prohibiting job discrimination. The EEOC has made this explanation of Federal rights more accessible for the public by using bullet points and plain language.

The prohibited types of discrimination and harassment addressed in the poster relate to matters of race, color, sex, national origin, age, equal pay, disability, and genetic information. The EEOC also provides clarification regarding retaliation for filing charges. An added QR code is included, helping employees quickly find out the steps for filing a charge.

You can download electronic versions of the poster as well as a Spanish version of the poster. Learn more about the rationale for the change and other updated information about job discrimination here.
